It isn't always obvious what's happening at home

Domestic violence is not just physical. There are different kinds of abuse such as psychological, financial, or emotional. Domestic violence is when one person in a relationship uses different ways to gain power and control over the other.

It might look like:

  • Stopping you from going out with your friends
  • Checking your phone regularly
  • Insisting you pay for things they want and can't afford
  • Only allowing you to go to work and come home
  • Preventing you from leaving for work

Chances are you know someone who is a victim of domestic violence. They may be a friend, a co-worker, even a family member.

New Zealand has one of the worst records in the world for domestic violence in the Western world. At Shine, we want to change this. But we can’t do it on our own. Let’s end domestic violence, together.

Right now, Shine frontline advocates are supporting up to 8 victims a day in Auckland who are at high risk of severe harm or death*. Your donation can help save a life.
