Safe House & Womens Refuge
In Auckland, the Shine Safe House offers short-term accommodation for women and their children who are at risk of further harm from domestic abuse. Families who stay at the Safe House have the time and space they need to recover from the shock and fear caused by the abuse. They are in a safe environment and are supported by experienced and friendly staff. The Safe House is at a confidential address, and offers warmth, shelter, safety, food and clothing.
Staff can provide residents with information about Work and Income benefits, support groups, counseling, housing, and help to find a lawyer.
Leaving home is a big decision, but in some cases it is the only way for a woman and her children to be safe, at least in the short term. If you are in danger of further abuse and want to talk about getting into a Safe House or women's refuge, please ring the Shine Helpline at 0508-744-633.
