Safe Practice Checklist for Social Service Agencies

  1. shine* has a public position against domestic violence which reinforces community messages of support for victims and accountability for offenders
  2. shine* participates in domestic violence forums to identify trends and solve problems
  3. There are multi-agency protocols on referrals, exchange of information and case management
  4. Domestic violence posters, current brochures and resources are prominently displayed
  5. There is regular employee training in respect to safe practice with domestic violence
  6. Clear internal policies guide the sharing of safety-related information to safeguard victims
  7. Employees have easy access to domestic violence assessment tools
  8. Separate interviews of (ex)partners and/or children include routine screening and assessment for danger
  9. Culturally appropriate services do not allow culture as an excuse for violence
  10. The code of ethics and agency procedures address abusive behaviour by workers
  11. Employees are involved in workplace safety planning
