Health
In 2002, Shine* was contracted by the Auckland District Health Board (ADHB) to create and manage the Ministry of Health’s Family Violence Intervention Project, which aims to integrate partner and child abuse intervention strategies into routine healthcare. The agency is the only community organisation to succeed in a bid of this kind. Training is provided for clinical and social work staff, and the Shine* Coordinator works with the ADHB Coordinators to develop policies and procedures and raise visibility within ADHB of the family violence issues.
A recent Ministry of Health evaluation showed that the ADHB was ahead of most of the other District Health Boards in many facets of the project implementation, including such things as collaboration, intervention services, screening and safety assessment, monitoring and training. As a result, Shine* has been contracted to provide training to all the District Health Boards around the country.
