Callout Advocacy Service
24 hours a day, seven days a week in the Auckland District Court area. Advocates visit the abused person in their home, at hospital, or another safe place. Advocates assist with any immediate accommodation, legal and medical needs, provide safety plans, support and information about other services available and ongoing advocacy.
Clients are referred to this service from two major sources:
- Health Sector: Referrals from Auckland Hospital, Starship, community-based nursing services (Midwives, Plunket Nurses, District Health Nurses), General Practitioners, Mental Health, Community Alcohol and Drug Services.
- Police: A formal protocol with the Auckland City Policing District ensures that Shine* is contacted every time an arrest is made for a family violence related offense.
Advocacy and Crisis Team
The Advocacy and Crisis Team is an Auckland City and North Shore service for adult victims of family violence and their children. The service is an intensive response for high risk and complex needs victims, in partnership with local Police and includes home visits. Our experienced staff also provide advocacy with other agencies as needed, including Work and Income, Housing New Zealand and Immigration. Advocates can also refer victims to other community agencies, including culturally specific service providers, to ensure that a full support network is put in place where needed.
