If you, a child or other family member is in immediate danger call 111 now.
Are you or your children in life-threatening danger?
If you can identify with any of the following, you and/or your children may be in life-threatening danger. Please call our Free Helpline 0508 744 633 to discuss your situation, and what options are available to help you (and your children) become safe.
Has your partner...
- Increased his use of physical violence and/ or the physical violence is becoming worse? (resulted in injury and/or required hospitalisation)
- Threatened to kill you or your children or family members?
- Used a weapon against you or threatened you with a lethal weapon?
- Ever tried to ‘choke’ you? (put his hands around your throat)
- Forced you to have sex?
- Assaulted you when you were pregnant?
- Threatened to commit suicide if you leave him?
- Used alcohol and/or illegal drugs excessively and frequently?
- Avoided being arrested for domestic violence, or disobeyed court orders?
- Acted extremely possessive or jealous; following you, checking up on you all the time, leaving threatening messages?
- Controlled all your daily activities; who you can see, how much money you can use, when you can take the car?
- Hurt or killed any of the family pets?
Have you left your partner after living with him in the last year or so?
If you believe your partner will kill you, regardless of whether you identify with any of the above factors, it is important that you trust your instincts.
It is important to remember that:
- The higher the risk to a mother from her partner, the higher the risk to her children, regardless of whether the children have previously been a target of his abuse
- Women (thus children) are at highest risk during and after separation
- The best predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour
